Pet Products. Creative. Fun. Inspired.

Pay attention, because inspiration strikes
when you're least
expecting it. Big inspirations. Inspirations that, ultimately,
change your life.
Pet product manufacturer Bluegrass Buddy Corporation began just that way. While vacationing with his wife, Diane, in Hawaii, inspiration hit corporate pilot Scott Wolcott.
All over the island, Hawaiian natives marketed self-created characters,
designed using pineapples, onions, and other edibles. Scott was
enchanted! He couldn't
seem to get those witty and memorable characters out of his mind.
Intensely intrigued, Scott returned home and enlisted friends,
family and neighbors to brainstorm for a brand-new character idea—he
wanted to create a character of his own. Living in Kentucky, the
Bluegrass
State, the inventors
naturally
were drawn towards using grass.
"But what could we grow it in? And how could grass be used as a character?" they
wondered. The old sock-doll idea came to mind, but Scott and his think tank knew
grass wouldn't grow through such thick weaving. Eventually, they settled on a
nylon knee-high stocking instead.
And Buddy was born.
So was Buddy Bluegrass Corporation.
Thanks to Scott's "day" job as a corporate pilot, Buddy found himself
in hospital and hotel gift shops around the country, as well as
nursery outlets,
Walgreens,
and even Wal-Mart stores.
Buddy had certainly become quite the jet setter. From the Colorado Jet Center in Colorado Springs to The New Hair Institute in California, Buddy was putting down roots and popping up all over!
Each Buddy was packaged with a postcard so his new owner could
write and let Buddy's family know where he had settled down. The response was overwhelming! Buddy Bluegrass Corporation received postcards from Buddy's
new owners by the hundreds!
Teachers were using Buddy as a teaching tool - sending photos and letters from delighted students. Businesses were captivated by Buddy's
headband and comical wide-eyed appeal; so much so that they began
placing orders for personalized headbands with business logos and
catchy phrases
for promotional
use.
The most surprising adoptive families? Cat owners! Buddy Bluegrass
received dozens and dozens of postcards from cats that loved to
munch on Buddy’s
tender green hair. Several cats even wanted to re-order.
This prompted Buddy Bluegrass to rethink their market, and the
Corporation's
official foray into pet products began.
