Some plants are toxic to cats. It’s next-to impossible to stop them, so fill your house with edible greens.
How do I know which plants are toxic?
There are literally hundreds of plants that can cause problems if your cat eats them. Here’s a partial list of houseplants to keep away from Kitty. If you’re wondering about a plant not on this list, call your vet or local nursery and ask.

I have at least three plants from
this list! Do I have to get rid of everything?
Not necessarily. You can try to teach your cat not to eat these
plants with a gentle spray of water and a firm “No,” or by giving
her a healthy edible green alternative.
What plants are safe for my cat to eat?
Some safe-to-nibble plants include: Aloe Vera, Cactus (ouch!),
members of the Fern family, Spotted Laurel, American Rubber Plant,
and Violets. Or, grow pesticide-free grass or catnip, and let her
nibble to her heart’s
content.
My cat doesn’t bother my houseplants,
but she eats grass all the time. Is something wrong with her?
No, eating grass is normal cat behavior. Not every cat enjoys
nipping on the green stuff, but many do.
Will it hurt her? Sometimes she vomits after she eats grass.
Grass won’t hurt your cat, unless your lawn is treated with
pesticides. In fact, sometimes cats eat grass so that they CAN
vomit.
But why does she eat it if it makes her vomit? Why does she WANT
to vomit?
No one really knows why cats eat grass. Many researchers think
that cats eat grass when they want to cleanse their systems.
If they have a tummy ache, or a fur ball, or if they’re just not feeling
right, cats may eat large quantities of grass.
If your cat has never been a grass eater and suddenly starts grazing
until she vomits, she may have a digestive problem. Call her vet
just to be sure.
I’ve heard that cats eat grass because their bodies’ need
nutrients not found in canned or dry food. Is this true?
Some people think so. Grass contains fiber, minerals and vitamins
A and D. It also has a very high moisture content. Commercially
prepared pet foods lose many nutrients through processing and
cat grass works
as a laxative too!
Does grass prevent fur balls?
It’s not a scientifically proven fact, but many cat owners
whose cats eat grass report little to no fur balls.
My cat doesn’t like grass.
Should I get her special vitamins or something?
Not necessarily. Maybe your cat doesn’t like the grass grown
where you live. Or maybe pesticides are affecting the flavor.
Like people, cats have different tastes. Some of the grasses
that cats
prefer are:
• Wheat grass
• Rye
• Barley
• Popcorn grass
• Lemongrass
• Crabgrass
Some cats refuse grass right from the planter, but will
eat it if it’s
finely chopped and sprinkled over their food.
Or, for example, buy fresh, dry-ground wheat grass. It’s commercially available and good for both cats and dogs. Whatever you decide to buy, make sure it’s
natural, and chemical-free.
Does Bluegrass Buddy sell grass seed?
Of course we do! Bluegrass Buddy sells a unique blend of oats,
wheat and rye seed under the Ozzy Att® name. You can buy the seed blend
alone, or in a cat grass starter kit. 3-ounce refill packages
are also available.
Ozzy Att® bulk seed is for those of you who want lots and lots
of grass. The seed stores well and can be kept safely in the freezer.
Why do you mix oats, wheat and rye?
The oats, wheat and rye give off a malt scent when they start
to germinate—and cats absolutely love the smell of malt! It’s not scientifically proven, but we think the scent will help keep your cat away from dangerous houseplants. Give your cat a choice between Ozzy Att® and
any ordinary houseplant.
What comes with the Ozzy Att® Starter Kit?
Well, you’ll get a special container featuring Ozzy Att® himself,
a starter seed blend packet with our special mix of oats, wheat
and rye, and vermiculite.
What’s vermiculite?
Vermiculite is a natural mineral that we use as a growing medium
instead of potting soil. Potting soil is really a soil-less mixture
that has no nutrient value. It’s heavier than vermiculite, so it doesn’t let air flow through. Because of its weight, potting soil doesn’t drain
well either—and poor drainage can lead to mold growth. In fact, most
potting soils have vermiculite in it!
We use vermiculite alone so your grass has better ventilation
and drainage through its initial growing stages—just when it needs
it most.
If you ever see mold on your seeds during or after germination, it means they need more air circulation. Just place your container in the refrigerator or in the sun to help dry the soil out.
Mold won’t hurt your grass. It just doesn’t look pretty.
Should I poke drain holes in my container for better drainage?
You can, but it’s better to just lightly spray the soil during germination.Tell
yourself that you want to under-water your seeds rather than
over-water them. A light misting for the first 2 to 3 days will
do just fine. After the grass
is grown, water according to directions.
Why should I buy OzzyAtt® over another brand
of seed?
That’s a good question. First, we supply you with only the freshest seed available. We never buy more than we produce, so you can be assured that the seed you get is seed from the grower. You’ll never find last season’s seed in OzzyAtt® Cat
Grass.
Second, our seed is tested and certified by a registered seed lab to verify content, germination rate, and noxious seed content. Our seed is safe!
